QUESTIONNAIRE

1. Why exactly did  you come to Karlovci Philological Grammar School ?

I decided to enroll in this school because I am interested in languages, and as this school is a philological one, it is suitable for children whose interests are inclined toward languages and humanities in general.

It is the one and only school, a very special one. I was told that what never fail to impress about this school is the very good relations between students and their teachers who are very trustworthy and reliable. The students are special, they are distinctive individuals, one can hardly find fashion-victims among the students of this school, which is ever so pleasant for one's eyes...It all seemed so promising.

This school offers opportunities for further education abroad.

Because it offers a broad education and because of the special relationship between the students and the teachers.

Because it is a reputable school, because I will be proud when I graduate and all my peers will be envious. And, of course, because of the languages-I am not very good at natural sciences...

Because it gives a thorough knowledge of the subjects I really like. Fancy someone who is fond of Serbian or Literature pining away at the School of Mechanical Engineering ?

I wanted to marry a theology student. (PS. Yes, I have drunk the water from the Four Lions fountain in Karlovci but with no results so far)

Has anything about the school let you down so far?

No.  I am getting more and more pleased every day with the choice I made and there is nothing that can make me regret it.

No, absolutely not. On the contrary, I could have never imagined how good it is here...

No, after all there is something special in the statement, 'I am a student of Karlovci Grammar School !'

Not many. Most of the things are just the way they should be.

Some teachers and some students.

Water-supplying units.

I might give even less importance to science.

Boys should be more encouraged to enroll in this school.

Well, maybe, a few teachers, and I beg you, some pictures on the walls. I can't stand looking at the pictures of Dositej, Vuk and the rest of them any more! Tolstoy, Andric and Crnjanski would make all the difference

5. Are the students of Karlovci Grammar  School any different from the students of other schools?

They possess much more knowledge and they do not yield to the influence of others easily. They can proudly say which school they attend and admit that they like the school without being embarrassed.

They are more relaxed and in a better mood as they are not under too much pressure.

They are different in every possible way, except for the biological origins (though it can also be argued...)

We have the school spirit, which the other students do not, and that is very special. Consequently, it makes us special, too.

I think it is almost impossible to explain, but there is no doubt that there is a difference. We have a different approach to people and the world, as well as a different sense of humour.

The students here are more mature and cheerful than the other students. The students here do not live in fear of the school.

In my opinion, most of the students of this school are taught by their teachers how to think, how to ask questions and never stop searching for the answers.

"For we meet, love each other and do not separate, so that in the end, nobody is alone!" Karlovci Grammar School Anthem

6. Are you infected with the Karlovci Grammar  School syndrome?

Sure.. More and more so every day. I can't explain to myself why and how, but the presence of the school spirit in me, as well as my dependency on it, is getting more powerful every day.

Probably. I just like the school so much.

 Yes. Hopelessly so.

 Yes, we all are.

Of course I am- I think we all are, the students, as well as the teachers. I always want to come back to the school; I pine for it when I'm not there.

Yes, I am infected because I love this school endlessly and my bond is permanent.

 Yes, definitely...

I have been diagnosed to have caught the germ but I still have not found the cure ( and it seems I never will)...

Just a passing remark: wherever you go out in the evening, and there is good music playing-you'll find all the students of Karlovci Grammar  School there.

7. What is a student of Karlovci Grammar School like? (to look at, to listen to, to be friends with?)

When students fall in love

A student of this school falls in love in spring, when Sremski Karlovci looks fantastic in its dazzling colours. A student in love doesn't listen to his teachers!

He violates the rule of falling in love in spring and falls in love when he finds a person who shares his opinions and interests.

He says, "I love you" in foreign languages he learns in this school.

She falls in love when she decides that her boyfriend is on the same intellectual level as she is!

You don't care about your marks when you are emotionally fulfilled....

He blushes at any comment made by the teachers and his classmates, he is happy even when he gets an "F".

She thinks, "Wow, life is beautiful and you are all beautiful..."

He says something he has never dreamt of saying. He studies with enthusiasm and philosophizes more than ever...

He probably looks funny. And sometimes we get worried about him...

She is absent-minded in classes and with her friends in general, and she utters grammatically incorrect sentences with a big smile and a lot of embarrassment.

When they try to avoid answering his teacher's questions

he either plays truant or smiles sweetly to a female teacher.

she feels as if his temperature suddenly soared up to 39.20 C...

he pretends to be sick, just disappears...

she tries to make excuses and promises to revise next time.

  When they play truant

I could do with a short walk to the us stop, and when I'm there, I might as well catch a bus home.'

he stands in the corridor in front of the classroom. His next class is Latin and he's having a written task and he realizes that he can't possibly learn more than the second declension.

When they justify absence

'I was only a minute and a half late but the teacher had already registered me!'

It seems as if his parents were completely mentally incompetent since he usually puts the blame on them, or as if the doctors has made a treaty with the viruses.

'I couldn't get on the bus!'

She lies through her teeth, puts on the look of an angel and surprises herself with the sophisticated vocabulary that she comes up with...

He tries to be convincing and gives a very detailed explanation, 'My Mum will phone to explain!' (and she never does).

When they have to read a book from the reading list

'Miss, somebody had taken the last book from the library a second before I came in!'

She reads all the reviews but not the book.

His reaction depends on the thickness of the book - if it is voluminous, he keeps his distance. Generally, I think he doesn't find reading a book difficult. Once he actually opens it, he gets lost in it.

'I'll see the film instead!'(But after seeing the film, she always reads the book, just in case.)

First he pulls faces and moans, complains about the literature teacher and the school curriculum, but he almost always reads the book.

When they listen to music

Come on, what on Earth are you listening to?! It's commercial - Limpkin Park rules!

Her complete act reflects the music she listens to. So, she's got all the accessories-the outfit, make-up,  jewellery... The music can be anything from rap to metal...

He likes combining everything as long as it sounds really good and makes sense. So, 'Little signals ' by Natasa Bekvalac is out of the question!

When they go on a school trip

Everybody gets crazy, including the teachers, and the atmosphere is great!

Almost as if he was at The Beer Day Festival in Sweden !

When they try to stand out in the company

He attracts attention with his encyclopedic knowledge. Or he sings (usually badly).

She is already respected as she is taught to respect her own opinion highly.

He would be more relaxed if he didn't have such a great need to pretend to be somebody else instead of being himself.

'Wow, did you see how I got an "A" in Geography. Piece of cake.'

By telling lies and justifying them by saying, 'I am a student of Karlovci Grammar School , I know best.'

When they develop personality

She tries not to lie to herself.

He keeps saying, 'I don't need to know it, it's just biology, maths, geography, chemistry, physics...These things don't count.'

When her parents throw her out of home with 100 euros in one pocket and 18 years of age in the other.

He tries to be unique and when he expresses his opinion one can never be sure what he really means.

Lots of carbohydrates! Lots of carbohydrates! Danger! What is this? Guess who! Dositej Njegos She's sitting there and isn't supposed to!
