BRANKO Branko , the school paper, plays an important part in the life of Karlovci Grammar School . As this is a philological grammar school, the majority of the texts published is either poetry or prose written mostly by the students, although at times the teachers, too, dare contribute a piece of literary work of their own. This material is of great importance, as one only has to leaf through some of the old issues and realize that some of the essays or poems were written by well-known writers, actors, politicians or teachers at the time when they were students of this school.
The Editorial Team The paper has always had a large editorial team, and has always striven to provide the best combination of youth and experience by engaging all students, from freshmen to seniors. The students are given an opportunity to publish what they regard as important, and have been encouraged to overcome their shyness and state their own views and freely express their personal feelings in public. The paper also keeps record of all the achievements of our students, the prizes they win, and in this way we try to motivate them to persist in their efforts to strive for excellence. Branko is also known for its interviews with famous, former students of Karlovci philological grammar school. There are also interviews with teachers, which gives the students an opportunity to get to know them better. The members of the editorial staff take part in numerous projects that aim to improve their skills, make them more independent, and help them learn as much about this profession as possible. One of the most popular features of Branko is the list of slips of the tongue that students carefully collect throughout the school year. It is published at the back of the paper and it is the first page everyone reads. Of course, no one gets angry when they find their name under a funny quotation on this page – everyone is allowed to make a mistake now and then! This is already the third decade of Branko . The tradition was not broken even during the bombing when on our way to Karlovci we had to cross the Danube on an improvised ferry , just to prepare another Branko for printing. The June issue is always devoted to the students of the senior year. It is our way of saying goodbye to them – we publish their last pieces of work written in this school (although some of them still bring in their written material even after graduation). Also, every year in November, we remember the graduating students one more time, as we look back at the first three prizes won in the literary competition of the Fund, established in the sad memory of a student who died in his last year in our school. There is much more to be said about the school paper. All this and much more you will find once you become one of our devoted readers who are both our appreciative audience and our best critics. We are sure you will find something interesting to write about for the paper. We'll be glad to have you in our editorial team if you feel you could contribute to the quality of our paper. And, in return, Branko will always treasure your work, because maybe one day you too will be among those who spread the glory of Kalovci philological grammar school all over the world. |
